Karen Vaughan, P.E.
Senior Associate
For Karen, it all started with the idea to design bridges, until after her first internship when she realized buildings were much more interesting. Now with over 20 years of structural engineering experience throughout the country, she lends Cuono her expertise mostly on commercial steel and concrete buildings.
Much of Karen's experience has been in the renovation or design of commercial buildings. Though she enjoys working on anything and everything that has new and interesting structural features and challenges. For her, every day and every project is different, but she can use her education, experience, and creativity to find the optimal solution to the challenges encountered to meet the client and owners’ goals.
Through Karen's time as a structural engineer, she has managed all aspects of projects, from concept design and feasibility studies through contract documents to construction administration. She has managed projects of all sizes including small tenant fit-out projects, mixed-use complexes, mid and high-rise commercial and residential buildings, hospital campus renovation and expansions and public entertainment venues. Each building has its own unique challenges and she loves to help solve them.
One of her career highlights has been her picture being featured in Engineering News Record (ENR) for work on the Bronco's stadium in Denver. This was her first big, noteworthy project; it was also a design build project where she spent almost 2 years working on the construction site watching it come to life. When Karen is not solving problems and helping to lead our team, you can find her traveling, cooking, and watching sports.
