Ciro Cuono, P.E.
After reading a book called City by David Macaulay which described how Roman cities were built, Ciro was inspired and knew he wanted to be part of building something. As a structural engineer, seeing the finished product and knowing that you've participated in getting it built has been the most rewarding part for him.
Ciro has practiced structural engineering for more than 20 years now throughout the NY Metropolitan area. He founded Cuono Engineering in 2012 and is involved with all aspects of the firm’s work which includes, among other things, high end residential and commercial projects.
With his passion for old buildings and structures, he most enjoys working on renovation and historic restoration projects. However, his work has encompassed the structural design of new buildings and large renovations as well. His various experiences have included designing with reinforced concrete, steel, wood, masonry, and aluminum for residential and commercial buildings, museums and cultural buildings, and historic building repairs and restorations.
At the core of all of Cuono's projects are the design efforts of our architectural clients, which means staying in tune with the architectural, cultural, and technological trends. Lucky for Cuono Engineering, Ciro is an endless learner and is an even more dedicated teacher and advocate of continuing education for his staff and those around him. He has taught courses to both architects at the Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture at City College and engineers at Manhattan College as a visiting lecturer. He's also given presentations to various industry organizations, including the 2019 SEI Structures Conference, has written a multitude of articles, and was even featured on the cover of Structural Engineer magazine.
When Ciro is not working, you will find him spending time with his kids, working on his house and garden, reading, and bicycle riding.
