Staff Engineer
Jurgen Lala
A recent graduate of City College of New York, Jurgen Lala joins Cuono Engineering as a Staff Engineer with an interest in the structural design of residential and commercial buildings. His coursework focused primarily on steel and concrete structures, and he was recognized as a recipient of a Deep Foundations Institute (DFI) Scholarship. Jurgen also served as a member of the ASCE CCNY Student Chapter, where he further explored his interest in the structural engineering profession.
Jurgen's interest in engineering began with a curiosity about how buildings and bridges can safely withstand the loads placed upon them. He was drawn to structural engineering by the opportunity to solve complex challenges while seeing the tangible results of his work. For Jurgen, one of the most rewarding aspects of the profession is knowing that the calculations and decisions engineers make contribute to the safety, functionality, and longevity of structures that serve the community.
One of Jurgen's favorite projects was his Senior Design Project, which involved the design of a seven-span concrete deck bridge. The project brought together concepts from across his engineering coursework and reinforced his appreciation for how thoughtful structural design can positively impact the public.
Outside of work, Jurgen enjoys playing soccer and traveling. He values opportunities to stay active, explore new places, and experience different cultures.
