1️⃣ Beaverkill Valley Inn (Lew Beach, NY)

Built in the late 1800s and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985, this Catskills retreat is steeped in history and charm. Featuring rustic timber beams and rubble stone foundations, the inn has welcomed generations of visitors seeking a peaceful escape.

Cuono Engineering restored its structural integrity through foundation repairs, new cheek walls, and framing reinforcements — ensuring the inn continues to serve as a destination for guests. Today, visitors can enjoy the cozy accommodations, farm-to-table dining, and outdoor activities, making it an ideal fall weekend getaway in the Catskills.

2️⃣ Tower of Victory (Newburgh, NY)

Originally built in 1887 to commemorate the American Revolution, this National Historic Landmark had fallen into disrepair before being restored. Cuono Engineering designed the structural restoration of its new steel-and-tile roof, reviving the tower’s iconic profile overlooking the Hudson River. Today, visitors can climb to the observation deck for sweeping views of the river and Hudson Highlands, especially breathtaking during the autumn foliage season. Combined with its Revolutionary War history, the Tower of Victory offers both a cultural and scenic experience that makes it a must-see destination each fall.

3️⃣ Lincoln Depot (Peekskill, NY)

Located on the historic site where Abraham Lincoln paused in 1861 to greet New Yorkers, this campus now includes a beautifully designed Visitor Center that enhances your experience of this pivotal moment in history. Cuono Engineering engineered its deep pile foundations, precast concrete planks, and SIP (Structural Insulated Panel) superstructure to ensure both durability and comfort.

Visitors can explore interactive exhibits about Lincoln’s journey, enjoy scenic views of the Hudson River, and attend seasonal talks or guided tours. It’s also a great stop in fall — when the leaves are changing, the light is perfect, and the crisp air makes walking the grounds even more memorable.

10 South Water St, Peekskill, NY 10566

4️⃣ Mark Twain Library (Redding, CT) – Founded by the famed author himself, this library is a must-visit for literature lovers and history buffs alike. The landscape was recently enhanced with a 14-foot aluminum pergola engineered by Cuono, where curved beams echo the library’s iconic architecture.

Visitors can browse the historic collection, attend year-round cultural events, or simply enjoy a good book outdoors beneath the new pergola. It’s the perfect spot to take in Redding’s fall foliage while connecting with Twain’s legacy and the community he helped inspire.

5️⃣ Rye Town Park (Rye, NY)

Nestled beside 34.5 acres of public beachfront, Rye Town Park is a beloved coastal landmark on the Long Island Sound. The 28-acre recreational site offers scenic lawns, winding walking paths, and an iconic Spanish Mission-style Bathing Complex with a Main Administration Building (ca. 1901), two colonnaded pavilions, and a Bath House (ca. 1925), where generations of visitors have gathered to enjoy the waterfront.

Visitors in the fall can experience tree-lined paths glow with autumn color, crisp and refreshing seaside air, and smaller crowds which make it the perfect season to enjoy both the natural beauty and the historic architecture. Cuono Engineering assisted Easton Architects in restoring the Bath House’s historic terra cotta tile roof. Additional renovations to the Bath House are currently pending, with completion anticipated by 2028.

95 Dearborn Ave, Rye, NY 10580

Fall is the perfect season to visit historic landmarks across New York and Connecticut. From inns and libraries to barns and museums, these sites tell the story of our region — and thanks to thoughtful structural engineering, they continue to stand strong for generations to come.

At Cuono Engineering, we’re proud to preserve history while ensuring safety, stability, and resilience.
