Cuono Engineering Fall Update

It's been an eventful fall for the Cuono Engineering team, filled with great events, milestones and a new team member...check out what's been happening!

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS & MILESTONES

On November 15th, AIA Westchester + Hudson Valley held their annual Celebration of Architecture featuring the Design Awards, Community Awards and Holiday Event. CE Principal and Founder, Ciro Cuono and CE Senior Associate, Karen Vaughan were in attendance to congratulate two of our award winning project clients. Grandberg & Associates received an Honor Award for the Schwab Office Building in Mt. Kisco and Gallin Beeler Design Studio received a High Honor Award for 70 Memorial Plaza.

Mark Twain Library in Redding, CT unveiled their new Pergola and Outdoor Seating area with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on November 20th with special appearance by none other than Samuel Clemens himself! CE Senior Associate, Melissa Fitter and CE Project Engineer, Daniel Binello attended on behalf of Cuono Engineering to celebrate the successful completion of this beautiful new addition to this treasured community library.

NEW HIRES

This month we welcomed our new Senior Production Technician, Mimi Lischin! Mimi joins the Cuono Team bringing over 27 years of comprehensive project production experience in the structural engineering industry. She's worked on a wide range of project types, including new and existing residential, townhouses / brownstones, commercial / retail, educational, and other special structures (public art, cultural/religious) comprised of many types of structural systems. With extensive experience managing schematic design phases through construction completion, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, code conformance, and quality standards, she will be a wonderful asset to our growing team.

INTERNSHIPS, MENTORSHIPS & CAREER FAIRS

Through September and October, we took to some of the top local college and university Career Fairs this to search out their best and brightest future engineers! With so many stellar candidates among the schools, we had great success finding our newest interns to come and look forward to introducing them next year!

Manhattan University Alumni Julia Neville and Louis Giacomo are extending our educational outreach further this year by participating in the school's Mentorship Program, which held their first Meet and Greet on October 30th.  Louis, Ciro's former MU mentee and current CE Staff Engineer, was paired with Civil Engineering Freshman, Mars Kushnarenko (seen in photo). CE Office Coordinator and licensed PE, Julia was paired with two Civil Engineering Freshman, Emely Niola and Tranira Booker. Make sure to keep an eye out for these new mentees - they could be the next CE Interns and Staff Engineers!

EVENTS & GATHERINGS

In early October, Manhattan University held their Annual Jaspers Sporting Clays Classic at the Pawling Mountain Club. CE Principal, Ciro Cuono and CE Associate, Wesley Velo attended to show support for their alma mater. The event benefits the Sportsmen for Charity Endowed Scholarship at Manhattan University.

On October 17th, CE Senior Associate, Melissa Fitter attended the AIA Connecticut Architecture Conference + Expo (CACX'24) at the Bristol Event Center. Cuono Engineering proudly sponsored the Coffee Break Session for this annual industry event, which is tailored for architects, designers and allied professionals.

Our staff got together late October for our Fall Team Build which was held at Bowlero in White Plains. We split up into four groups for an epic showdown of skills with team captains Wesley Velo (Bowling for Soup), Melissa Fitter (Shear Strikes), Dan Vainer (Hot Rollers) and our Fall Intern Joseph Park (A Walk in the Park). Impressive performances were seen from many of our engineering staff, including Daniel Binello who bowled a 129 - the highest score in the 2nd round. However, it was Melissa who took the top scores in the 1st and 3rd rounds (149 and 130 respectively) helping to cinch her team's victory.

We held our first Annual Halloween Costume Contest at our White Plains office, along with our officemates, Red Key Solutions. The competition was fierce and included special guest appearances from Dora the Explorer, Morticia Addams, Stuart the Minion,  Indiana Jones and Olympic Break-dancer, Raygun! In the end, the overwhelming majority went with their hearts and chose the loveable Spotted Lantern Fly (CE Office Manager, Alice Layton) as 1st place. Don't you miss them already?!
